"Your Shangri-La in a bottle" is the slogan of this totally unique and wonderful brewing company based four hours North of Shaxi in Di Qing Prefecture, Yunnan.

They make six flavorful and varied brews from mostly local ingredients.

Shangri-La brewery is the brainchild of Songtsen Gyalzur and his brother Tseten, both ethnic Tibetans who grew up in Switzerland. Together with a team of professional brewers and marketers, they have created this one-of-a-kind world class beer in the highlands of Shangri-La.

The team built a fully customized, state of the art brewing facility to international standards, unsing local mountain spring water and heirloom Tibetan barley. This makes the brewery a true pioneering concept in China, which is dominated by a handful of flavorless, mass-market beers.

  • label sg

The Old Theatre Inn in Shaxi is the first to stock a selection of Shangri-La beers, as the heritage hotel strongly identifies with the mission and values of the brewery (who also happens to make some of the most unique and delicious beer in the world)!

Welcome to Shaxi Yunnan China - a cultural treasure of the ancient Tea Horse Road

Located halfway from Lijiang to Dali, Shaxi Yunnan is home to a beautifully preserved traditional way of life that offers a glimpse into a forgotten era. Shaxi has been protected from mass tourism due to its relative distance from popular destinations in Yunnan. But a new highway has made the driving distance from Dali to Shaxi or Lijiang just 90 minutes. The local government, keen to protect Shaxi's unique cultural heritage, is working with a conservation team that aims to create a sustainable travel strategy for the valley, encouraging activities that provide ownership opportunities for local families.
