Learn from one of the few certified Yunnan yoga instructors

  • Yoga Instructor Sana, Old Theatre Inn, Shaxi Yunnan China

I am a woman of Naxi nationality, born in Lijiang. I have been practising Hatha and Kundalini yoga since 2004. I studied in Rishikesh, India, where I qualified as an instructor of Ashtanga yoga at the Shiva Yoga Peeth school founded by Swami Sudhiranand.
My classes include breathing exercises that help free the mind from the stresses and cares of modern life, practise of the asanas (yoga postures). and chanting traditional mantras. I emphasize that each asana includes a spriritual component inseparable from the physical posture.

Yoga cultivates both physical fitness and peace of mind. It is the path to perfect health and spiritual contentment.

Lately, many yoga classes have focused only on the physicial aspects of the discipline. I take a holistic approach that treats the body and mind as one, with the aim of achieving harmony between our physical and spiritual aspects.

I also studied oil painting in Lijiang, Kunming and Beijing from 1993-1997 and studied Tanka painting in Nepal in 2007.

I enjoy making flower mandalas as a kind of meditation.

Welcome to Shaxi Yunnan China - a cultural treasure of the ancient Tea Horse Road

Located halfway from Lijiang to Dali, Shaxi Yunnan is home to a beautifully preserved traditional way of life that offers a glimpse into a forgotten era. Shaxi has been protected from mass tourism due to its relative distance from popular destinations in Yunnan. But a new highway has made the driving distance from Dali to Shaxi or Lijiang just 90 minutes. The local government, keen to protect Shaxi's unique cultural heritage, is working with a conservation team that aims to create a sustainable travel strategy for the valley, encouraging activities that provide ownership opportunities for local families.
